At Ashurst we have a team who are passionate and dedicated to Mental Health and Wellbeing for all within the 'Family of Ashurst'. We believe that creating a positive culture around mental health and wellbeing with highly effective support in place ensures everyone achieves their potential and feels valued.
Every child is important and we want to ensure we unlock their potential enabling them to achieve their goals. We believe that every child should be valued, feel safe and cared for at Ashurst.
If your child is upset or worried and needs someone to listen to them then please encourage them to speak to any adult in school who will inform Mrs Craven.
If you have a worry about your child at school please contact Mrs Craven, Mrs Houghton or Mrs O'Brien on 01744 678150.
We strongly believe that positive mental health and wellbeing promotes school success and enables children to feel safe, valued and respected. At Ashurst we are committed to ensuring that all children and young people are educated in an environment that encourages and promotes positive mental health and wellbeing. In doing so this has a significant impact on school success by;
- Encouraging both pupils and staff to feel valued, motivated and confident.
- Encompassing a whole school approach.
- Contributing to positive behaviour and good attendance.
At Ashurst we embed positive mental health and wellbeing within our curriculum, and also implement the PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies) Programme. PATHS enables children to develop social and emotional learning skills which will encourage them to make positive choice throughout life.
We are passionate and dedicated in leading a mentally healthy school and actively promote the '5 Ways To Wellbeing' foundation within the school.
5 Ways To Wellbeing;
- Connect
- Be Active
- Take Notice
- Keep Learning
- Give
Why the Five Ways work:
Connect: Strengthening relationships with others and feeling close to and valued by others, including at work, is critical to boosting wellbeing.
Keep Learning: Being curious and seeking out new experiences at work and in life more generally positively stimulates the brain.
Be Active: Being physically active, including at work, improves physical health and can improve mood and wellbeing and decrease stress, depression and anxiety.
Give: Carrying out acts of kindness, whether small or large, can increase happiness, life satisfaction and general sense of wellbeing.
Take Notice: Paying more attention to the present moment, to thoughts and feelings and to the world around, boosts our wellbeing.
