Year 5 Pupil Voice

'Reading is an amazing subject and I love to get out my book in the morning when I get to school and start reading.  Since Year 4 I read Harry Potter and that inspired me to get the rest of the collection.  I am currently reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.  My favourite books are magical books.  I think reading is a very important subject as it weaves through all other subjects and it is a good inspiration if you want to be an author.  You really need reading in a school! ' Joshua

'I love Reading Plus. One of my favourite reads is a gymnastics one.  This helps me and raises my aspirations.  I got chosen to be the reading ambassador because I love reading.  The book I am reading now is from our school library.  It is called 'Stitch Head'.  This book helps me and teaches me new vocabulary.  Books can teach you a lot of things and that's why you should spend time reading. ' Nyla

'There are so many books to choose from in our school library and I enjoy reading books about animals.  Right now, I am reading 'The Wind in the Willows'.  I love this book so much I am reading it for a second time. 'Reading helps in other subjects and that is the reason why I like it.  My favourite book is War Horse by Michael Morpurgo as it was sad at the beginning but turned heart-warming towards the end.  I am now enjoying reading The Silver Hand by Terry Deary which is also about World War I.'  Leon

Year 6 Pupil Voice

'One of my favourite things about reading at Ashurst is the variety of books we have.  There are books on everything and not just for fun or for reading lessons.  You can use our books in other lessons too, such as history, science and geography.  Every lesson, you need to read. So reading at Ashurst is one of the most enjoyable things ever!'  Sophie

'Reading at Ashurst is amazing!  What I really like about reading is Reading Plus because Reading Plus gives us more opportunities during reading and we have access to a variety of different stories and challenges, it's amazing!  I can get lost in a good book, if I get the right one.  I would like to get infants into reading more as well because it will open up opportunities for them at a younger age.'  Matt

'The thing I love about reading is that it can teach you and tell you about different stories.  Reading is one of my favourite things to do because I can learn new vocabulary.  I also love Reading Plus.  It is so helpful because you can find the perfect book for you and it can help you improve your reading speed. Another thing I love about reading is that I get to recommend books to others.  I like to write about how good a book is when I am recommending them.  I wish I could write more about reading, but I would probably be here all day! ' Tiffany
