Excellence Everyday

Reading Ambassadors

We are so proud of our amazing Reading Ambassadors!  They do such a brilliant job of leading 'Reading for Pleasure' at our school.   Mrs King looks forward to meetings when children bounce ideas off each other.  Their aim is to get everyone at Ashurst to love reading!  Our Reading Ambassadors meet regularly to talk about what is going well and to discuss what else can be done to make further improvements to reading at Ashurst.   They are held in very high regard and lead with passion and total commitment.  Children we are so proud of you!

Get to know our ambassadors a little more by reading their profiles below:

My name is Finley and I am the Year 1 reading ambassador. I was asked to be the reading ambassador because I love to read and I have read so much during lockdown!  I like to learn new words and I enjoy helping other people read if they get stuck.  I love to read on my own so I can imagine all the things from the stories.  My favourite book is The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien and I like reading the nonsense poems too.  They are so funny!  My mum and dad inspired me to read because they said I could play the Pokemon games, but they have a lot of reading in them, so if I tried hard with my reading, and got better, I would be able to play them by myself.  My favourite place to read is under my bed.  I have a beanbag chair and cool lights there so it is a good place to relax.

Hi I'm Oliver.  I’m really proud to be Year 2’s reading ambassador, I love to read and especially enjoy reading about historic events like the sinking of the Titanic and the first man on the moon. I also love learning facts about the world, for example, the Jeddah Tower is the tallest building in the world and it is in Saudi Arabia. I don’t have a favourite author, but I do enjoy reading books like, The Gruffalo and Stick Man which are written by Julia Donaldson. I enjoy reading with my Mum and Dad and like to discuss the book with them when I’ve completed it.

Hi I'm Lailah.  I wanted to be a reading ambassador because I love reading. I love how reading takes me to a quiet and peaceful place. My favourite book is The Bookshop Girl.  My favourite poem is 'Twas the Night before Christmas'.  I like to read everywhere!  My favourite authors are Julia Donaldson and Sylvia Bishop.  I like reading with my mum and my step dad.  I inspire myself to read because whenever I see a book that looks good I just really want to get that book.

Hi I'm Corey. I love reading because it can take your mind to different adventures. Books create new places and words for us to explore. I also love reading because you can learn new and interesting things.  My favourite book is diary of a Wimpy Kid.  The characters make me laugh so much with how silly and crazy they are.  Even though my favourite book is Diary of a Wimpy Kid, my favourite author is Roald Dahl because I love all of his stories.  They are magical and exciting because they take my imagination to places I'd really like to go.  I love reading to my little sister because we both get to enjoy the story.  My mum inspires me to read because before I knew how to read, my mum would read me my favourite stories.

Hi I'm Nyla.  I wanted to be a reading ambassador because I love reading and knowing about more things.  My favourite books are Harry Potter books because they are interesting. I like to read in my bedroom; on my bed or my swing.  My favourite author is JK Rowling.  I like reading by myself so I can concentrate.  The people who inspire me to read are my parents and teachers.
